The defence of Mónika Schönléber’s doctoral thesis was held at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen on February 22, 2022. The doctoral thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr Miklós Maróth (Avicenna Institute of Middle Eastern Studies) and Prof. Dr Jens Scheiner (Georg-August-Universität Göttingen).

The two-volume doctoral dissertation, entitled “Ibn Aʿtham al-Kūfī and His Kitāb al-futūḥ, Volume I: The Author, the Textual Tradition, and the Ridda-Narrative, Volume II: New Edition of the Ridda-Narrative”, examined Ibn Aʿtham al-Kūfī and his Kitāb al-futūḥ, providing a critical edition of the first part of the text, as well as a detailed analysis of both the author’s biography and the part of the work selected for edition.

The thesis was awarded summa cum laude by the reviewers, while the oral examination was graded to magna cum laude, resulting in a successful defence process.
