FIELD OF RESEARCH
Fields of interest: ethnology, cultural and historical antropology, Islam, social history of the Middle East, Islam in Sub-Saharan Africa, Swahili culture and language, Islam in Southeast Asia.
Main focuses of research:
- social history of the Middle East (e.g. the social role of genealogies, patterns and santioning of non-normative behaviour, informal social interaction and networks);
- Islam in Sub-Saharan Africa (esp. Swahili culture and society);
- Islam in Southeast Asia (esp. syncretic and folk varieties of Islamic tradition and wider societal attitudes to these).
