The aim of this book is to present Iran from different points of view. The two longest chapters discuss the scientific achievements of Iranians on the one hand, and present the history of Iran on the other, which provides, with the help of understanding the past, an explanation for the events in contemporary history. C. E. Bosworth gives a brief account of Persian historiography, while I. Szántó describes the colourful history of the Persian arts accompanied by pictures, and M. Maróth describes the Shi’ite branch of Islam and its various movements. É. Jeremiás gives an account of the languages of Iran, paying special attention to the development of the modern Persian language. Cartographer, Zs. Török discusses the depiction of Iran on maps from Ptolemaios in Antiquity to the present-day. Gy. Bárdossy writes about the geography and geology of Iran and K. Kakas summarizes the research of Hungarian geophysicists in Iran.
