From 20 May to 19 June 2018, two staff members of the Avicenna Institute of Middle Eastern Studies carried out research in the library of the Institut dominicain d’études orientales (IDEO) in Cairo. Gyöngyi Oroszi completed the chapter on the presentation of the historical, cultural and literary background of the Mamluk era by reading through the related Arabic language sources and secondary literature. András Mércz identified a manuscript of the Syriac Anaphora of St. Basil that could serve as the basis for Andreas Masius’s Latin translation.
During their stay, they actively participated in the local scientific and cultural life. They attended the Ibn Taymiyya seminar of the IDEO and the cultural events of the Balassi Institute.
