A conference entitled Syriac and Its Users in the Early Modern World c. 1500 – 1750 was held in Oxford in March 2018. The purpose of the two-day event was to bring together early-modern Syrian research experts from as far afield as Japan, Canada and many European nations. The lectures covered several areas of Syrian culture, namely literature, history, liturgy, epigraphy and history of science. The conference was attended by András Mércz, a member of the Avicenna Institute of Middle Eastern Studies, who presented a unique 16th-century Syrian correspondence.
