A hitherto unknown Arabic novel in letters containing the correspondence ascribed to Aristotle and Alexander the Great. The Arabic text, which is quite probably the first Arabic text written in prose, was translated from Greek into Arabic under the reign of the Umayyad Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik. Parts of the novel are well known as independent treatises (Pseudo-Aristotle’s De mundo and Sirr al-asrar, etc.), but the novel as such, in the form of a novel in letters serving as a handbook of epistolography and as a handbook of political and moral philosophy, has not been known until the edition of this manuscript.
