Various authors have contributed to this volume. A. Belhaj, M. Miklós, Z. Szombathy, L. Tüske and O. Varsányi examine 43 of the most important terms of Islamic political theory such as constitution, party, democracy, religion, etc. The exact meaning of the particular expressions is determined and the differences in meaning with regard to the corresponding European expressions explained. The aim is to draw attention to those differences that are discernible between Islamic and European political theory and to show the reason why experts on politics, that lack the necessary Arab knowledge, constantly misunderstand the Muslim world in their commentaries and articles.
