This volume consists of two parts. In the first section, the author explores the beginnings of the reception of Safavid art in Hungary and the ways it has been represented to this western audience, all the while giving an overview of artefacts of Iranian art preserved in Hungarian museums. The second section is devoted to an analysis of the single most precious piece of this category known as the Esterházy Appliqué. The author explores its origin as well as meaning within its cultural context.
