The Nordic Society for Middle Eastern Studies (NSMES) held its Annual Conference between 22-24 September at the University of Iceland. The title of this year’s conference was “The Middle East in Myth and Reality.” Our institution was represented by two researchers: In his paper, “Napoleon on Egyptian Screens,” Omar Sayfo discussed the place of Napoleon Bonaparte’s Egyptian campaign in contemporary Egyptian political thoughts, while in his presentation “The Limitations of Imagining the Land of the Two Holy Mosques in Cambodia,” Zoltan Pall explored the image of Saudi notions of Islam in Cambodia.
