The public defence of András Barati’s doctoral dissertation titled “Royal decrees of the Nādirids, Durrānīs and Zands from the Āstān-i Quds-i Rażawī of Mashhad,” was held on 18 February 2021 at the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). The subject of the Ph.D. thesis is the examination of hitherto unpublished 18th-century Persian royal decrees from the library of the Imam Reza Shrine in the Iranian city of Mashhad. Based on the recommendation of the defence committee members and the reviews of the opponents of the dissertation, Prof. Dr. Bert Fragner and Dr. Zoltán Szombathy, habil. Associate Professor (ELTE), Barati earned his doctorate summa cum laude in Iranian Studies. The supervisor was Dr. Iván Szántó, habil. Associate Professor (ELTE), the advisor was Prof. Dr. Christine Nölle-Karimi (ÖAW – Institut für Iranistik).
