On October 21, 2016, Josep Puig Montada, a member of the Complutense University of Madrid and Honorary President of the Société Internationale pour l’Étude de la Philosophie Médiévale (SIEPM), was a guest at our Institute and gave two presentations.
In his first presentation, he introduced the ERC (European Research Council) -supported project entitled Philosophy in Context: Arabic and Syriac Manuscript Transmissions in the Mediterranean (PhiC). One of the main objectives of the project is to better understand the manuscript tradition of philosophical works and create an online database as the main instrument.
Professor Montada in his second lecture entitled Ibn Bājja and Potentiality presented his latest findings on Ibn Bājja (b. 1138), an outstanding figure in Andalusian intellectual life in the early 12th century. After the presentations, not only were scientific issues and the difficulties encountered in working with the manuscripts discussed, but our colleagues also had the opportunity to learn how to use the PhiC database.
