RESEARCH FIELD
Area of interest: Arabic/Islamic medicine, medical literature, paediatrics, midwives, wet nurses, travel medicine, codicology.
My research field is medieval Arabic/Islamic medicine. In my theses, I examined the medical practices of the Holy Land in the Crusader period; and paediatrics based on 9–13th century sources, with a focus on the regimen of children from birth to weaning. Based on the same sources, I surveyed the role of midwives and wet nurses in paediatrics as well as midwifery and nursing as professions.
My current research focuses on the medical treatises and parts of encyclopaedias written for travellers. Besides examining medieval Arabic/Islamic travel medicine, I included a critical edition of a 15th century treatise written for travellers in my thesis.
